MALDIVES - Republic of Maldives / Dhivehi Raa'jeyge Jumhooriyya

The Republic of Maldives (Dhivehi Raa'jeyge Jumhooriyya), is an island country and archipelago in the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of India and Sri Lankain the Laccadive Sea. The chain of twenty six atolls stretches from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll to the Addu Atoll. The capital and largest city is Malé, traditionally called the "King's Island."
Encompassing a territory spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres (35,000 sq mi), Maldives is one of the world's most geographically dispersed countries. It is the smallest Asian country in both land area and in population. The archipelago is located atop the Chagos-Maldives-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean, which also forms a terrestrial ecoregion, together with the Chagos and the Lakshadweep. With an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, it is the planet's lowest country. It is also the country with the lowest natural highest point in the world, at 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in).The government has pledged to make Maldives a carbon-neutral country by 2019 amid concerns about rising sea-levels.
The name Maldives may derive from the Malayalam words "maala" (garland) and "dweepu" (island) or the Tamil maalai(garland / evening) and theevu (island), or මාල දිවයින Maala Divaina ("Necklace Islands") in SinhalaThe Maldivian people are called Dhivehin. The word Theevu (archaic Dheevu, related to Tamil தீவு dheevu) means "island", and Dhives (Dhivehin) means "islanders" (i.e., Maldivians)

These beautiful covers sent by my good friend Saneesh from the capital city Male. He is from my native state called Kerala, working there as a Nurse. He went to the main post office in Male and requested for Registered mail with clear cancellation. But they didn't care much about postmark, he could not do anything. The covers posted on October 17, 2016 and I received in my hands on October 30, 2016. Thank You Saneesh for the perfect covers.

This is another beautiful cover sent by my good friend David during his visit in Maldives. Unfortunately the postmark is not clearly visible. The cover sent on March 19 20017 and I received on April 06, 2017. Thank You David for the beautiful cover.
